Essential Maritime Security Knowledge for Seafarers

Security Awareness Training is designed for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity onboard ships that are required to comply with maritime security provisions, but who do not have specifically assigned security duties.

The course introduces participants to common maritime security threats, onboard security procedures and their individual responsibility for maintaining vigilance. It is structured with reference to STCW Regulation VI/6 and Section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code.

What Is Security Awareness Training?

Ships, ports, cargo and crew can be exposed to threats such as piracy, armed robbery, smuggling, sabotage, terrorism and unauthorised access. Every seafarer must be able to recognise suspicious activity and report it through the correct onboard channels.

This training develops basic security awareness without assigning the participant responsibility for specialised security operations.
